A written manifesto sent to a local newspaper from the Bay Harbor Butcher sends Lundy’s special task force into chaos. Doakes almost discovers the truth about Dexter’s past, and Dexter devises a plan to get Doakes suspended from the police force. Lila and Dexter have a romantic dinner together, but Lila takes drastic action when she learns that Dexter plans to attend one of Cody’s school events where he will see Rita. Rita stands up to her mother and tells her to move out of the house. Debra breaks up with Gabriel and decides to pursue a relationship with Lundy, not knowing whether her feelings are reciprocated.
